Energy audit DIN EN 16247

The European Efficiency Directive stipulates energy audits for all larger companies. This directive is implemented respectively within national legislation. Therefore, in order to create legal compliance, a company group must:

During the audit, the company has to assign more than 90 % of its used energy. To maintain the legal compliance a business groups has to:

  • check audit requirements for all its European locations
  • know the implementation of the European Efficiency Directive within the respective national legislation
  • conduct all audits internally or externally

The following are excluded from the duty of auditing:

Small and medium-sized companies in the sense of recommendation 2003/361/EC with a number of employees <250 and a turnover of ≤ EUR 50 million or a balance sheet total of ≤ EUR 43 million. Companies which can show an energy management system certified according to DIN EN ISO 50001 are equally excluded from the duty to audit as companies with a validated environmental management system within the sense of Regulation (EC) no. 1221/2009 (EMAS).
